Where and why

Facial volume loss is not random; specific fat compartments deplete first. Loss at the temples and cheeks drags the midface down and deepens the nasolabial fold. So rather than injecting the fold directly, supporting the cheek often gives a more natural result.

In the lower face, the jawline and chin largely determine the profile. A recessive chin exaggerates the appearance of a double chin, and a small amount of chin projection can correct the profile without touching the neck at all. In the lips the target is proportion rather than volume — the balance of upper to lower and the definition of the border.

Safety and reversibility

The key safety issue with fillers is vascular anatomy. In certain facial regions, intravascular injection can cause serious complications, so treatment should be carried out by a clinician who knows the anatomy and selects the appropriate cannula or needle. Hyaluronidase is always kept on hand at our clinic.

If you do not like the result, or the distribution shifts over time, the filler can be dissolved. That is the main advantage over permanent products — when a permanent material causes problems years later, surgery is often the only option left. We do not use permanent fillers.

Common questions

It comes down to volume and technique. Rather than placing a lot of product in one session, we start small and add after two or three weeks if needed. The aim is not to enlarge the lip but to correct the upper-to-lower ratio and border definition; for most people half a millilitre makes a visible difference.

Numbing cream is applied for twenty minutes beforehand, and most fillers contain a local anaesthetic. The lips are the most sensitive area, and a block can be added there if needed. Most patients describe it as uncomfortable pressure rather than pain.

Nine to eighteen months depending on region and product. It breaks down faster in mobile areas such as the lips and lasts longer in stable areas like the chin and cheeks. Metabolic rate and exercise habits affect it too.

Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase; the procedure takes a few minutes and the result is visible the same day. Because that safety net exists, we do not use permanent fillers. Even so, we ask you to let the swelling settle over the first two weeks — judging early is usually misleading.
