Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal works because melanin in the follicle absorbs the laser light, and the resulting heat disables the root. Only hairs in the growth (anagen) phase are affected, which is why a course is needed — one session is never enough.
What sets the number of sessions
Hair cycles differ by region: about four weeks on the face, six to eight on the legs. Intervals are therefore planned per area; "once a month for everyone" is not correct. The total is usually six to eight sessions, and more where there is a hormonal cause.
Hair and skin colour matter too. Dark hair on light skin responds best; in blond, red and white hair there is little melanin, so the laser’s effect is limited. We say so plainly at the first assessment — the expectation has to be realistic.
Before and after
The area should be shaved before the session; waxing, plucking and epilators remove the root and with it the laser’s target. So no waxing for four weeks before a session.
Afterwards, avoid hot showers, saunas and pools for twenty-four hours and do not apply irritant products. Sun protection is essential, particularly on the face and décolletage — on tanned skin the risk of burns rises and a session may be postponed.

Common questions
The accurate term is permanent reduction. After a completed course most hairs do not return and those that do are finer and lighter. Because hormonal changes — pregnancy, thyroid, PCOS — can activate new follicles, one or two maintenance sessions a year are advised.
It is described as a brief snap of heat, like an elastic band. A cooling handpiece reduces it markedly. The most sensitive areas are the upper lip, bikini line and underarms, where numbing cream can be used beforehand if needed.
You can, but the sun rule must be observed: no tanning for two weeks before or after, and high-factor sunscreen throughout. On tanned skin the risk of burns and pigmentation rises, so we may postpone a session — that is a precaution, not an arbitrary rule.
Shaving only. Waxing, plucking and epilators pull the hair out at the root, so the laser has no target at the next session and that session is wasted. If you have waxed, the session needs postponing by at least four weeks.
