Enzymatic Lipolysis

Enzymatic lipolysis means injecting agents that break down fat cell membranes into a specific area. It is not a weight-loss method; it targets genetically stubborn localised deposits that diet and exercise do not shift.

Who it suits

The most commonly treated area is the submental fat under the chin. Beyond that, the lower abdomen, inner thighs, upper arms and flanks can be treated. What decides suitability is skin elasticity more than the amount of fat: if the skin is too lax to retract, reducing the fat can make sagging more obvious.

For patients carrying excess weight we advise addressing that first. Lipolysis does not reduce overall body fat; it acts only where it is injected. Keeping expectations within that limit is the single biggest factor in satisfaction with the result.

Sessions and recovery

A typical protocol is two to four sessions four to six weeks apart. Swelling and tenderness follow treatment, and under the chin that swelling can be marked for the first three to five days. So we suggest scheduling around your commitments.

The result is gradual. Once the fat cells are broken down the body clears them through the lymphatic system, which takes weeks. The final assessment is made eight weeks after the last session.

11 — FAQ

Common questions

No. Lipolysis affects only the fat cells where it is injected and has no effect on overall weight. It is for stubborn localised deposits that diet and exercise do not shift. If weight loss is planned, that should come first and the remaining localised fat assessed afterwards.

The fat cells that are broken down are cleared from the body and do not return. But the remaining cells can enlarge with weight gain — so while the regional result is lasting, overall weight control still matters.

Under the chin it is marked for the first three to five days and resolves completely within a week or two. On the body it is less noticeable. Cold compresses and good hydration shorten it. We postpone strenuous exercise for the first week.

They are not in the same category. Liposuction is surgical, removes far more fat in one session and has a longer recovery. Lipolysis is non-surgical, effective for smaller volumes, with a quick return to daily life. For limited, localised deposits it is a reasonable option.
