Radiesse is a collagen stimulator made of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres. It provides support immediately and triggers your own collagen production over the following months. It sits in a different category from hyaluronic acid fillers, used more for structural support and skin tightening.

A two-stage effect

The first stage is mechanical: the gel carrier gives immediate volume and support where it is placed, lasting a few months and tapering gradually. In the second stage the microspheres stimulate fibroblasts and new collagen production begins, becoming evident from the third month.

So a Radiesse result follows a curve — visible at first, slightly reduced, then improving again. We explain this at the outset, otherwise the second month is mistaken for the result being lost.

Where it is used

It is used for jawline definition, the submental area, cheek support and midface asymmetry. In hyperdilute form it is applied to the neck, décolletage, inner arms and backs of the hands for skin tightening, where the target is texture rather than volume.

It is not used in the lips. In mobile areas with thin tissue the risk of nodules makes it unsuitable, and hyaluronic acid fillers are safer there. It is a good illustration of why the product’s properties should drive the choice of treatment.

Common questions

Hyaluronic acid filler adds volume directly and can be dissolved if needed. Radiesse both supports and stimulates collagen, but it cannot be reversed. That makes planning more critical beforehand, and it is not used in mobile areas.

The first effect is visible on the day. A slight decline can be felt in the second month — that is normal as the gel carrier is absorbed. From the third month the collagen effect takes over and the result becomes evident again. We make the real assessment at three months.

In hyperdilute form yes — the target in those areas is texture and firmness rather than volume. A three-session protocol is typical. Planned together with botox for the platysmal bands, the overall result on the neck is more complete.

Applied in the right region, at the right depth and in appropriate quantity, the risk is low. It rises in highly mobile, thin-tissue areas such as the lips, which is why we do not use it there. Moulding the area after injection also matters for even distribution.
